Parsi food (2)This Parsi New Year, Mumbai’s favourite restaurants are creating special menus for Parsi food lovers. Here’s a look at what we can dig our teeth into.

Prawns curry with RicePrawns curry with Rice at J W MarriotJW Marriott is hosting a 10 day food festival to usher in the Parsi New Year from 8th – 18th August 2015. Prepared in collaboration with the Bawi Bride Kitchen, the menu boasts of Parsi classics like Grandpa’s Kheema Kebabs – succulent kheema kebabs made with spiced potato, mince and spices, Shirinbai’s Cheese Eeda Cutlets – a heirloom cutlet dish made using boiled eggs, cheese, chillies and coriander held together in a white sauce and her Mamaiji’s Red Prawn Curry. Also on the menu are Mutton Dhansak, Saas Ni Machchi, Patra Ni Machchi, Mutton Pulao Kaju Chicken, Lagan Nu Custard and more.

Lagan Nu Stew
Lagan Nu Stew at SofitelThe Sofitel Hotel is hosting a 12 day Parsi Culture to Cuisine trail in association with Ripon Club, as a tribute to the community.
From worshipping the fire to the rising sun, the Archaemenian Dynasty to Naqsh E Rustom, the hotel aims to capture the spirit of the community. The Pondichéry Café has installations of glass, clay and wood which are symbolic of history and art of the community. On display are Gara Sarees which are traditional embroidered silk sarees which is woven as one integral piece and is fragile.

Find a library of books like ‘Beyond the Last Blue Mountain’, ‘Camera Chronicle’, ‘Colonial Parsis & Law’, ‘Great Leaders Great Vision’, ‘Iranian Studies’, ‘Laughter in The House’, ‘Poems Potpouri & Parsees’ and more. In the ‘Bawajis Café’ each table is laden with the banana leaf to denote a Parsi wedding. The buffet set up that is on a rotational basis has favourites Lagan nu Stew, Patrani Machi, Tittori, Sev, Chicken Farcha, Papeta pe Eidu on the menu. The festival is on everyday till the 18th August 2015 for lunch & dinner.

Mutton Berry Pulav
Mutton Berry Pulav at UmameChef Khambata’s kitchen at Umame will create an array of Parsi specialties for Parsi New Year celebrations, including Achar, Saria and Rotli, Patra ni Kolmi, Jardaloo Salli Chicken, Mutton Berry Pulao, Masala Dal and the signature Filo Mille Feuille of Assorted Berries for dessert.
